INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The gray skies and damp conditions finally start to break today, setting up the coldest temperatures since last spring across central Indiana tonight.
Widespread drizzle continues across the area with low-level clouds keeping visibility reduced. The upper-level low that has kept us damp all week is finally starting to lose its grip on the region.
Skies stay mostly cloudy through the afternoon, keeping temperatures cool. Highs will struggle to reach the mid to upper 60s across most of central Indiana.

Clearing will begin in eastern Indiana and move west through the evening.
With clear skies and light winds developing overnight, temperatures will drop quickly.
Rural areas will see lows drop into the mid to upper 40s. Indianapolis and other metro areas will hold closer to 50 degrees due to the urban heat island effect. Near the Illinois state line, lingering clouds could keep lows in the low 50s.

This will be the coldest night since last spring. The last time Indy fell below 50° was May 15th.
Friday brings filtered sunshine as high clouds slide in from the Plains. Highs will reach the low to mid-70s. A pleasant fall day.

Saturday and Sunday look fantastic. High pressure takes control, bringing mostly sunny skies. Highs will climb into the mid to upper 70s both days.

Perfect autumn weather returns. Lows will stay in the 50s.
The pleasant weather continues into early next week with highs in the upper 70s Monday.
We are tracking a potent weather system for Tuesday night through Thursday. This setup could bring a severe weather threat Tuesday night into Wednesday despite cooler temperatures. Heavy rain is also a possibility.

Meanwhile the overall trend remains warm for the start of October.
