SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The San Francisco Fire Department responded to an underground vault fire at 150 California Street in the city’s Financial District Thursday morning. A shelter-in-place order, which was lifted by 11 a.m., included a four-block radius around the incident location.

Firefighters initially responded to reports of smoke at 6:04 a.m. Four vaults in the incident area experienced "eruptions" by 8:30 a.m., according to fire officials. PG&E told KRON4 that the "cause of the incident was an issue related to an underground cable."

"The immediate area has been evacuated and the surrounding area has been cordoned off," SFFD wrote at 7:11 a.m.

Power was shut off to a limited number of customers in the area. Just before 8 a.m., emergency management officials advised residents to "prepare now for possible additional power outages" as the "outage footprint may expand."

No injuries were reported in the response, fire officials said.

Road closures and avoid-the-area advisories that were in place have been lifted.
